Some players are almost irreplaceable. It took about 20 odd years to replace Ian Botham with Flintoff, It took about 5 to replace Gooch with Trescothick, it was about 5 years before finding Ashley Giles as replacement for Tuffers. and I don't think we will ever find a replacement for Gower...
Yes, it takes a lot of grit and determination to captain a cricket team. Of recent captains Atherton and Hussein had plenty but I think Vaughn and Strauss got lucky in as such they had so many good players there was little need for a "Captains Innings " too regularly.
I think that Prior just likes to be in control and dominate the bowling,up til recently it worked pretty well. Until the top order regularly started collapsing there was no pressure on him to have to build a long, big innings. That has changed now and his form has collapsed and he has no plan B
It's too soon to start the autopsy and bloodletting yet, we still have to find a team that can compete for 5 days in Sydney. I think the 5-0 is almost nailed on bar an excellent innings of 200 ish from one of our batsmen or weather interference. Lot's of heads are going to roll over this, some...
Ah well, not entirely unexpected result. Would have been nice to make them work for it. I'm not sure what Sydney will bring but I'm expecting the worst .
I think that match fixing at Test level is pretty hard to do these days after the recent issues. Besides, how would you identify someone match fixing in the England team when it could be all of them by current standards ?
On this tour I would not bet against the convicts in any department in any match. we could be said to have " won " maybe 2 days out of the 18 days play this Test Series. If we are batting we usually throw our wickets away, if we are bowling we either let them off the hook or they dig their way...
I'm not sure how this Lee/Moron business came about but If I had been Moron I would have had a couple of hours in the nets with one of those bowling machines that can mimic every bowlers deliveries. Given he is padded up to the nines and he knows Lee is going to target him he should have had...
You have to tough that sort of stuff out. I had a net once and there was a very nippy youngster who was trying to intimidate me and gave me a high full toss like a rocket, I had to try to hit it but it was so fast and high I hit it with the my bottom hand/bat handle. felt like I broke two...
I don't get the point of it. Must be some publicity in it for the knob. Anyway, why did he bring a bat in to the net with him ? you can't use it if you are backing in the net adjacent and 8 ft away from leg stump. Fair play to Brett Lee who rather let him off quite lightly.
Edit : forgot to add...
