The jury is out on Bairstow for me. Despite his howler not going for that catch early on the fourth day, I think he looked a far more organised keeper than when Prior first got in the England team, once French, the very underrated keeping coach works his magic on him, I'm sure that area will be...
Couldn't agree more, I get the feeling that both Trott and Colly were grafters and extremely good to have around the team. We've not managed to replace Collingwood since his retirement and plenty have had a go at it (Bopara, Morgan, Taylor, Woakes, Root did well but was moved up and now Stokes.
The Pietersen/Collingwood partnership in the 2nd test for instance. One of the most immensely satisfying nights of Ashes cricket I've ever watched, seeing both McGrath & Warne get the treatment.
We're actually coming to a really interesting time in World cricket in the next couple of years. The top 4 sides are at different stages of rebuilding...
India: Are just about there, having had to replace one of the best batting line-ups the world has ever seen.
South Africa: Are probably in...
The latter, I think. With the exception of Adelaide, which was the most heartbreaking defeat I have ever seen an England team suffer, they absolutely spanked us in all the other tests.
I'll stick with the 4-1 as being close, it polluted my enjoyment of watching England play football to the degree that I only just about care again. I take your point, but the manner of the defeat was such that I just wanted it to end from about 25 minutes in. We were comprehensively outclassed...
- Germany 4 England 1 for me personally was close to this level of humiliation
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- The wally with the brolly Croatia night wasn't too far off
- The 06/07 whitewash, though as discussed...
Bairstow looks a better keeper than Prior did when he first put the gloves on for England. There are plenty of others who can count themselves lucky but no one had failed with the bat across both series to the degree that Prior has. Australia TOTALLY worked him out.
A few thoughts:
- We haven't actually bowled badly in a first innings yet this series, we've let Australia off the hook a couple of times granted. It's been in the second, when the bowlers have had very little rest, due to us being bowled out quickly and being way behind the game that the...
I lasted a whole 2 overs last night, switching off in disgust after Pietersen's wicket. Looks like I missed out.
It's a good pitch for the English bowlers at last, a bit slow, some lateral movement and I think the spinners will be well in the game in the 2nd innings. Well done England for...
England grafted but the Australian's continued to bowl brilliantly, Johnson't got the headlines but Harris, Siddle, Watson & Lyon have been absolutely outstanding in sticking to their plans. The England batsmen don't know what to do, if they wait for the bad ball, the scoring rate is too slow...
