I'm not saying anyone said cider was shit.
But this thread is full of superior sneers from the ale fans towards those who like other things - lager mainly, I grant you.
It's got nothing to do with that. It's the:
Stuff I like - decent.
Stuff you like - horrible.
...outlook.
I like a good cider and I'm largely indifferent to ale (although I've had a fair few at the Amex as it's easy to get hold of). However I wouldn't dream of saying my favoured drink was...
Because of using wording like you just have which, in essence, says "the stuff I like to drink is decent, the stuff you like to drink is dreadful piss water."
Many real ale fans can not seem to simply drink and let drink.
I must say, I'm very disappointed at this news - I was very much looking forward to the beardies having to suffer in the same way as the cider drinkers.
John Smith's is the biggest selling bitter in the world. This can mean one of two things, although probably a combination of the two...
- A lot of people buy it through choice.
- A lot of people who like bitter will buy JS if it's the only option available to them.
Exactly my point and my position.
I'm guessing that John Smiths sells in ridiculous volumes - so people are buying it no-matter what the snobs would have you believe.
I firmly believe that most bitter drinkers would buy JS if it were the only choice in the same way I buy horrible Strongbow.
Good luck with the queues to get away from the ground.
(I don't like any of the drinks on offer, most notably the cider is shit and most of those I go with feel the same. But we all tend to stay behind because a shit drink is better than a long queue.)
