Unfortunately it's one of those problems that can be caused by lots of different issues and I would say it is most likely caused by problems of conversion from an anologue signal to a digital signal and your laptop for some reason rescanning its selection. You have probably already tried this...

Are you outputting to just to the TV rather than the TV and the laptop?
