I had the misfortune to go to Benidorm once for a holiday. I spent the first 2 nights with the mob culture then hired a car and spent the rest of the time getting as far away from it as possible. I spent a few nights with the locals at a seafront village called Althea, which was very enjoyable.

Will definitely consider it, being self employed I can leave it to the last minute and get a standby cancellation thingy I hope.
