    No. "is he ahead of the ball?" highlights that while he is ahead of the defenders, there is another thing to consider - his position in relation to the ball.

    Yes that is still the law, but I don't agree his head is further forward than his foot, and not ahead of the ball.

    This. The direction the ball is played is irrelevant. A player has to be ahead of the ball to be offside, and it looks to me in that picture that he is behind the ball.
