Spot on. As Papa say we can just hire fake snow machines, 'dress the set' as they say and then tell the League that the weather in Falmer is really bad despite the Met Office reporting that it's actually 6c
I mean, how difficult can it be?
Oooh good point. A light dusting of snow or even a good frost should do it. The pitch will be fine but the approaches will be terrible: icy pavements, walking, slipping, safety is paramount, can't be too careful, if it saves one life, etc etc etc.
Is this where we're going wrong? People aren't being imaginative enough. All we've got to is get a load of old space shuttles from Nasa, train some stewards up to pilot them and then we can ferry people in from all over Sussex! The capacity on yer average space shuttle isn't that big...
Blimey. Reading between the lines (and making two plus two equal four million) the League seem to be digging their heels in. Safety reasons or not if we don't fulfill the fixture we're looking at a potential points deduction.
Yes. They make massive use of temporary car parking. As on Boxing Day there will be no trains and bugger all buses it's pretty obvious that private cars will have to take up a fair bit of the slack. What it needs is for the club to get one of the local farmers to have one of those temporary...
Bit of both I think. You could sum it up by saying people are complaining about the 'necessary stupidity' of building an out-of-town stadium heavily reliant on public transport in a country with inadequate/patchy public transport.
Ah! Just found out this thread is now of academic interest only for me as my wife has to work Christmas Day; therefore Boxing day will be our Christmas Day - so I won't be going anyway!
(I'm sure you all really wanted to know that ...)
I think there's a difference between putting on the odd game without public transport ('rising to the challenge' I think Herr Tubby called it) and being able to do it every single time. There's no way I could walk to the Amex for every match, I don't always have the time for one thing.
It's interesting. The Amex is a stadium where they want most out-of-town fans to arrive by bus (either direct or P&R) or by train - so if there are no buses or trains it does make it very difficult to stage a match. Or at least stage a match with a sizeable crowd. Sure us locals, or relative...
I dunno, you do get the feeling that certain people think that we're asking for TOO many concessions and we're a bit of a wussy club. On the telly on Saturday when they were explaining why we had a 17:30 k.o. the announcer said "And the kick off is at five-thirty because Sussex University has an...
I can't be arsed to look, but I think there IS a Boxing Day service on some lines (not sure if they're in the south or not). Certainly I can remember going to the Goldstone by train on Boxing Day (from Lancing), and I think our Boxing Day service was still running in the early 1980s.
But yeah...
Trains. Trains used to run on Boxing Day - and Christmas Day come to that. The last train on Christmas Day was in 1964. In London the tube ran on Christmas Day until 1979. Needless to say the Germans run trains on Christmas Day ...
