I was wondering the same thing. I almost got stuck in it at 2.30 heading from Lewes towards Brighton but managed to double back at Hounsdean Farm. From the overbridge the queues looked to be going as far as the Falmer turnoff, so "near Lewes" is stretching it a bit.
