Within the range, out of the range. It doens't matter if some one is there to varify it, it just has to be within a certain band of frequency to be able to be heard. Sound is sound if it is hearable. Not if it is heard.

Incorrect. Sound is created by the movement of particles. so yes, it made a sound. Particles of air would have been moved by the force of the tree falling and hitting the ground.
