I suspect the argument is that someone will buy the club - and that someone will have to settle the football debts. So the players get paid.
And will Ben Haim get that sort of money elsewhere ? Plus after a few years his family is probably settled. I can see why he would not want to move - but...
Ben Haim is actually being paid £50K a week. Not the mere £35 previously reported. The balance is image rights!
From David Conn in The Guardian:
With a contract for image rights, payable to a company registered in the tax haven of Guernsey, Ben Haim's pay totalled around £50,000 a week, £2.5m...
HMRC are sorting this out. PAYE and NI deducted by organisations and then paid to HMRC is currently reconciled and notified to HMRC at the tax year end. Under current procedures being implemented PAYE and NI deductions will be reconciled monthly.
I am torn on that one. Part of me says that we should just keep on doing the right thing. I'd like to know what TB thinks though - whether anyone actually thought about it or we simply followed procedures.
And to be fair - another one who seems to have an appreciation of what has happened:
Basically long story short we sacrificed Portsmouth football club for about 3-4 years of glory!!
Here is someone with his priorities right:
On the subject of pompey beers. Does anyone know if the Pompey Beer Festival 2012 is going ahead this year. There were strong rumours that "for financial reasons" they may not run it again
It is a guilty pleasure of mine. I like the ones who only concern themselves with matters on the pitch. And the ones who think it is some sort of establishment conspiracy to put them out of business.
I think you will find that the correct procedure is to promise to give them 1p in the pound.
Then a couple of years down the line tell them you spent it anyway.
