What you fail to understand is there were people who were peacefully protesting, yet were getting attacked by the police. By all means police are entitled to retaliate to control the argy-bargy, but they must only do what is necessary. I'm not looking for sympathy, I understand why I got hit...
Clearly I knew the risk involved. That doesn't excuse the actions of certain members of the police, though. Obviously the violence was initiated by the students, but equally the police have to take some responsibility for what happened.
I think the comments of some people in this thread is clear evidence of why a university education is necessary, and why the reduction of accessibility is going to be an obvious long-term detriment to society.
I can promise you it did happen on multiple occasions. Whether or not you want to believe me is irrelevant. I got smashed on the head with a police shield a couple of times for doing nothing but standing there.
Anyway, I've said what I had to say, but now I've got an essay to do. Let the...
That's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is the police were being unnecessarily over-the-top. I know an officer who beat a girl to the ground with his batton has been reported, whether or not anything will come from it though is another matter.
I'm not going to reduce myself to your level, but I think it's clear for all to see who needs a university education in this thread. Unfortunately it's no longer going to be as easily accessible, unless you've got the money of course.
I saw about 10 students being injured (cuts to the head and blows to other areas of the body), and I was only there for an hour or so, so clearly there must have been more injuries. I've no idea why this wasn't covered. I guess because they have walked off and not reported what happened. I'm...
Yes that statement makes me a prick, nice one. Glad you know how to have a reasoned debate.
There were people who were doing nothing to cause any sort of violence getting attacked by violent over-the-top police, who were also hitting girls on the head, forcing them to the ground.
They were blindly hitting people on the head with battons, doing as much as they possibly could to hurt people. Some of them were on a serious power trip, and were basically their position.
That was one extreme incident, to which the crowd reacted by booing and chants of "stop throwing shit". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAGNJMQD1rA&feature=player_embedded
I don't really agree with the violence, but I was there and at the end of the day had the violence not occured the story...
