There is actually quite a debate going on the student forums regarding how education should be funded. The massive hike appears to be the problem - but the discussions are far from black and white.

How old is your average student then ? The average age on my Masters Degree was well over 30. Silly women but age isn't the issue.

Yep agree with most of that - but I think the MP expenses scandal has really focused voters minds on how their money is spent. The students need to win the argument with the general public as well as the Government. Funny how Clegg has become public enemy numero uno after his rock star status a...

Labour would have done exactly the same and the NUS are arguing for a Graduate Tax.... In a way I'm glad students appear to have politicised again on mass. Nothing wrong with that...

Yes and no - depends on what they are going to study and how it helps industry in general. Degrees like Architecture, Science and Engineering are going to become very very expensive. For cases like above - I'm surprised the CBI have yet to pipe up.

I listen to them on the issue of "democracy" if they elected their leader directly.

He does that in his latest act (which is very funny) - but he was actually demonstrating how sh*t the situation is. Interesting interview with him on the subject... JDEZ2h41t0I

I honestly think this is somewhat different. It's an argument that needs to be won with the tax-payer as well as the Government. I also believe that the NUS have been campaigning for a Graduate Tax and yet many people on that march are asking for free education. They really need a coherent...

    How thick are students...

It's rather too simplistic to think that the trouble was the work of "anarchists", even if they were I'd imagine most were students. It's doesn't appear to be the view of the people who were there either. If I was a student (well I technically still am....) I'd be very pissed off with the lib...

The Intelligence Services already have a "free" if they view people as a subversive threat. Not sure about CCTV - but the demo was filmed in HD by the media. If people can be indentified and the evidence is there they will be prosecuted. Who exactly are the rentamob ? I think it will turn...

I do have sympathy for them and I'm not particularly happy about Higher Education being turned into something exclusively for the rich. There is no evidence to suggest they weren't students. It's like describing football hooligans as "not football fans". It's possible to be both.

From the footage I've seen the Police need applauding this time. If they lost control at some point, they've not lost public opinion this time.

Tate Britain is down the road or you could have taken in one of a number of nice bars over the bridge in Vauxhall. Seriously on reflection this demonstration has done far more harm than good. Watching footage of people dancing inside Millbank - just looked pathetic. If there were dance students...

That's the real sadness actually. I happened to go to three institutions with a very "liberal" (how ironic) attitude to admission. I've seen higher education quite literally change people's lives - or the path that society expected them to take. It's quite something to hear a beer delivery...

Yep. Not had any experience of OU - but again know a few people who have done it. What I will say about Birkbeck is you don't need that level of self discipline because you have to obviously turn up for lectures / sit exams constantly. I always found I take in information better in a lecture...

One possible solution would be for more Universities to offer part time courses over a longer period. I've just finished a Masters after work and it was really a case of either watching TV or listening to a lecture / doing coursework etc... I know many people who are doing their first degrees...
