My statement around getting a job was about getting one while you study to help fund your course - not to get one instead of Uni.
They have - it's the 50% tax band.
I think one of the biggest problems here is that so many people think going to Uni is a right. The schools and Sixth Forms are...
No they bloody don't !!!! It's very simple - protest peacefully and you won't get hit. It a demo turns violent then, as far as I'm concerned, the Police have every right to hit back. In this case, anybody with any common sense would have moved away from the building rather than just standing...
*cough* - Falmer ???
There may be more demos but make no mistake, the police will be out in force with every one from now on. Instead of seeing 7 police officers in hospital you'll be seeing students in there ..... and they will only have brought it on themselves.
I worked in hotels and did whole days Saturday and Sundays and 3 evenings a week. Combined with Poly hours I probably didn't do more hours than many people work full time now.
Plenty of social time both with work colleagues and mates.
Then given we're talking about Uni and most people are at least 18 when they go ( unless you're particularly gifted ! ) then you're employer is paying you an illegal rate.
£2k a year @ £5.93 per hour means you only work 6 hours a week !!!! I think any student can find at least double that to work. I used to work 30 hours hence why I came out with no real debts.
I went to a Poly and worked at the same time. as others have suggested, if student bothered to work ( and I don't mean 3 hours in Asda every other Saturday morning ) they could easily cover most of the extra fees. I got a very small grant that didn't come even close to paying the fees and my...
Welcome to the real world. When gas goes up nearly 10% next month what luxury should I cut ? Or should I go and smash up the offices of British Gas ?
The debt wasn't my fault either but life isn't fair.
My point being that regardless of where the money comes from for the lessons, that it could be used to help fund your education instead.
When you own a home etc and the mortgage rate goes up of gas / electricity doubles in price you often have to decide what gets cut - booze, fags, Sky TV etc...
OK - I'll retract the venom in my first post although I believe people normally say what they really feel and mean first time so I think the back tracking is a face saving exercise.
Lots of us have lost considerably more than £20k thanks to the economic climate - some in being made...
I would suggest driving lessons are a luxury rather than a necessity. So as well as students with the latest and greatest mobiles they can also afford driving lessons but cry foul when they're asked to contribute more to their education ?
I did have some sympathy .... until today. I would...
So you agree with intimidation and violence / force as a valid form of protest ??? Yet when the police use it back on you and your friends you complain - idiot. And pleading in some pathetic way that you're leaving a building that you FORCED your way into and intimidated people going about their...
Because the INCOME tax they pay would be the same assuming they were paid the same amount. The graduate may not have managed to get the job without the degree - maybe they would only of got to be a couple of grades lower ?
Surely one of the main complaints of the current system is the debt it...
