I don't know that he would have saved it even if he had dived. In any case l think he thought it was going wide, only curled back in at the very last second.
I only know of the road that runs from the Village Way crossroads, across the downs towards the Downs Hotel.
But as you can see my regular abode is in the opposite direction.
Is there some sort of pathway he could take? l mean he could easily be mown down just wandering along the side of the road, no pavement at all as l recall.
