I don’t agree with you re the first half performances Southampton. Sometimes the opposition just does some really good football stuff, and in the first half they played 2-3 brilliantly weighted and timed balls behind us, most of which we dealt with very well. And unfortunately, with the way the...
I thought Ayari was our best midfield player after the first 7-8 minutes. Considering he was playing a new role at the base of our midfield, he generally did it well.
Just not as well as Baleba would have.
The biggest problem for Lamptey is he seems to need 2-3 touches to control the ball at the moment. In the Premier League, that’s quite a big flaw.
BUT, he put in the two most dangerous crosses of the game, one of which we scored from, and he generally defended very well.

Doesn’t mean we’ll achieve it, of course.
I dunno. I thought we had a lot of very good chances. Some of the heading today was pub level stuff, making brilliant chances look like half chances. But it’s amazing how often we don’t do the basics of getting the ball on target…
Well, quite. That doesn’t stop the fact that we mullered them first half. Nor does it stop the fact that we had enough chances second half to put the game to bed even though they were much better.
This is a finishing issue. It’s been a finishing issue for a while.
I mean that’s blatantly not true.
It was, however, the worst collective finishing performance I’ve seen from the team in years, and that says something. Mitoma set the tone in the 3rd minute missing the sitter he missed… and they kept piling up from there.
On another day, we’re 3-0 or 4-0 up...
