A Labour victory seems a certainty. It’s the extent of it that’s up for debate. One thing I found interesting is that in some Labour by-election wins including the two that were apparently record post-war swings, the Tory vote totally collapsed while the Labour vote didn’t really increase at...
She isn’t barred yet but has also not been nominated to stand either. She’s awaiting a decision. On current form I will predict she won’t get the go-ahead but we’ll see.
This was the prediction that Sir Keir would be 'forensic' and 'surgical' in his debating style? I can’t say I’ve noticed it yet. I also think it’s of more use in the courtroom than in election politics. Floating voters are rarely won over by cold logic and debating points. Emotional connection...
Maybe It shouldn’t matter but it does, and will influence some voters. That’s why the leaders debates will be important. Probably not enough to swing the result, admittedly.
Seriously, even the LibDems are left of Labour these days and far more radical. Shows how far Labour have travelled recently. I can understand the reasons for Labour's "don’t scare the horses" strategy but if you compromise too much you lose your identity.
I think the leaders debates could be a banana skin for Labour. First one next week, and presumably more to follow. Keir vs Rishi should be interesting viewing. Whatever you think of his record, the fact is that Sunak has more charisma than Starmer. I know elections shouldn’t be decided, or...
The awkward point will come if her CP is allowed to select its own candidate. I’m presuming she’s very popular locally given her impressive support from the voters. Sir Keir might be in a dilemma here as with Corbyn who’s standing as an independent. Either let her CP select her and face the...
The proof of the pudding, and all that. It was a mealy mouthed passive-tense response from Sir Keir. Very lawyerly. He could have pulled the rug from the annoying interviewers and simply said “Of course she’ll be able to stand.” She has a lot of local support so it will be interesting to see if...
If you make a big deal about the need to raise income taxes for the wealthiest, over several years, and actually make it a major plank in your own party leadership election manifesto, but then just before a general election state that you won’t raise such taxes, you can expect to be grilled on...
