Will Buckley has urged the side to make a quick start at the Amex against Burnley. The Albion winger believes the opening strike will be vital if Gus Poyet’s side are to secure three crucial points, as they look to close in on the play-offs.
He told seagulls.co.uk “Sometimes we give sloppy goals away and give teams something to hold on to, so hopefully we can get the first goal on Saturday as it is massive. We tend to go on and win games by two or three if we get the early goal, so we will be looking to do that against Burnley.
“We have home advantage which will be better for us but we will put pressure on ourselves to win because we have to take advantage of the Cardiff win.
“We are used to having the ball and dominating teams so I don’t expect Burnley to have more possession than us, but we need to get that first goal.”
On the topic of Albion’s excellent 2-0 win in the Welsh capital on Tuesday night, Buckley felt the side turned in a very un-Albion performance, but expects the side to return to their more familiar style against the Clarets.
“Tuesday was a different performance from us as we usually we have the lion’s share of possession. We ended up playing like visiting sides have done at the Amex; we got the goal, stayed solid and then managed to get the goals on the break.
“It was a tough game and it wasn’t as comfortable as the scoreline made out. We were definitely tired afterwards because it was a big effort that we put in; we had to work hard for each other and it is always a lot harder when you have not got the ball.
“It was a big challenge but we had Wednesday off to recover and have been back in training, so we are prepared for the weekend.”
