I live in an affluent part of the south of England surrounded by houses worth ridiculous money and twatish people earning obscene amounts of money, living lives that I think are alien to the reality of most people in the world and I know the majority of the twats that live round here have never heard of Joy Division.

And yet, I’m sat here listening to them, a band from the North West of England who wrote their music nearly 50 years ago thinking how in touch their music is with the bollocks bleak reality of life in this f***ed up world.

Fun fact - I was in a quiz a couple of months ago, and the answer to a music question (no, I don't remember what the question was) was 'Joy Division', and I somehow pulled it out of my arse. Happy days.

I too have been very much enjoying drinking this Fridat.

Edit - I expect they played the intro to 'Love Will Tear Us Apart', or I wouldn't have got it.

Just read it back. It’s a bollocks, self indulgent OP but do you know when you have those moments? Life moves quickly.

Was it about a massive football club falling apart?

Fun fact. I went to Manchester last week. Virtually the first person I saw when I got off the train at Manchester Piccadilly was wearing an Unknown Pleasures T- Shirt

By the way, I’m no aficionado but the Joy Divison documentary on Amazon Prime is worth a watch.

You must be one of them if you're surrounded by them, surely?

And besides, not all rich people are twats; not all working class folk are salt of the earth.... anyway, I'm lost with the point... not sure what the link is between rich (supposedly twatish) folk in Sarisbury and the world being f***ed up? And Joy Division (who are great)

Don’t worry about it.

And yes, I am a twat.

Why would you assume that all of the people with good jobs and big houses DON’T know or appreciate Joy Division, or any other great band?

Do folks in nice houses not like music? Were folks in nice houses never isolated teenagers searching for belonging, or University students exploring relationships and sharing experiences with kids from all backgrounds?
