Yeh. I think this is ridiculous.

Every minute Milner is on the pitch, which ok, won't be many, is a minute that Ayari, or Hinsh or Yalcoulye won't be getting in their development.

Fanciful to suggest that he'll be on a junior coaches wage. What a cock up

Looking at fab’s quotes - Which describe a coach and make no mention of his future playing - they may have done better to describe Milner’s role as a player coach .
Not that I’m criticising the club etc . The club is great etc

All 20 years of it.

That's the problem right? Players only have so many miles in the legs. Doesn't matter if you're fit or not
But had he not had that injury do you not think he would have been incredibly useful helping to close out games last season? Who knows - that injury might have cost us Europe. He may only play a bit this season but he might just make a difference when we need it most.

As I understand it It‘s in his capacity as a player.
It is well documented that Premier League players are well compensated.
I have no idea as to specific wages and salaries of Brighton players but, in the case of Milner, it seems highly unlikely that he would be on the same figure that he was when he was at his prime, playing in the Champions League at Liverpool. Just as salaries go up as players continue to improve (and their value increases), surely the cuve must level off and, ultimately decline at some point.

I find a couple of things odd about the reaction on here: 1) some fans are reacting as thought it is their own money (yes, I know 'we pay their wages', etc) that is entirely funding Milner's new contract and 2) a club that gets SO much right – especially when it comes to player values and making money from player sales and generally balancing the books – would essentially waste a whole load just out of sentimentality, or helping Milner get the PL appearance record.

There is CLEARLY a lot of value in him being in and around the squad – both on the pitch and off it – so I don't really get the anger/discust/bemusement of it all.

Really? What a complete and utter waste of money. Just what is the point?
Is it possible, perhaps, that the club know a bit more about it than you do?

No....what am I thinking. :lolol:

Maybe those players will be playing alongside him and learning from him.

I'll ask you the same question I asked earlier, how much does he earn?

Wow. Emotive language or what .
To answer the question - we’ve taken on a player who probably won’t play. At the expense of a talented kid, possibly.
Like I said earlier , probably better to describe him as the player coach fab outlines in his quotes

Why? What exactly does Milner offer to the playing side? Which is the only side that matters. Woopie-do's he speaks Spanish, but then again we shipped out most of our Soanish-speaking starlets with undue haste last Summer. Doubtful any of them would have listened to that old guy, old enough to be their dad, in any case.

Last Summer's transfer window was a triumph of quantity over quality. This Summer's early indications don't look all that promising...
Your attempt to draw me into an Elderly Gentlemen's suicide pact has, I am afraid, failed, on this occasion.
I still have some codeine left after the knee replacement - happy to post them to you

The only thing we fans get to see is what happens during the 90 minutes every week.

Hours and hours of training happen in between that.

Do you reckon training with players with 1,000's of hours of top level experience, top trophies, international experience, and still able to put in a shift in the Premier League is likely to be beneficial for our young players?

I suspect the club does, which is why we like players like Lallana, Milner, Welbeck, etc.

The club doesn't get a lot wrong - and we have a very good track record of developing young talent.
You have got increasingly sensible in recent weeks.
Are you on drugs?
Can I have some?

(Apologies for yet again channeling that great slice of English comedy, "Bottom".
I got told off by our Dear Leader once for careless quoting, so best I cite my source. Ahem.)

Well you also don't seem to be impressed with our 18/19 year old signings or our 27 year old given your earlier comment. What signings would you want? Seems to me a good mix so far.
They have to be twenty four and three quarters, not a minute younger or older.
Something to do with Adrian Mole.

Go and have a lie down H
I have been for a lovely swim, and am cooking dinner for my lad and my old pal Bob (aged eighty two and three quarters).
Not ready for horizontals.
Too much exciting news on NSC to digest
