New 1-year contract.

They should have spoken to me. I'd have worn a load of training kit, drunk coffee at Lancing, and travelled to a few away games to shout "come on lads" occasionally, all for less than a TENTH of Milner's salary.

I could even fix the video displays for them when they break, so most likely make a more meaningful contribution.

(I look forward to having this post thrown back in my FACE, on the many, many occasions he runs games for us over the course of the season)

Really? What a complete and utter waste of money. Just what is the point?
Let's ask Fabian:

“I’m really pleased we will have James with us again this season.

“Last season he wasn’t able to help the team on the pitch as much as he would have liked, but around the squad his experience is invaluable, especially for the younger players.

"He’s a great guy to have in our environment, who is always there for me and the team. I’m looking forward to working with him again.”

Are you prepared to lose the snood?

Total waste of wages. Possibly the worst signing in our history. Must have had about four decent games out of him over two seasons.
First two seasons were a mere warm up to what’s coming in season three

I bet Paul Barber won't be happy with somebody else earning the same as him.

And that, Fabian, is what is known as a coach. Not a player.

Some people will likely try to defend this descision by explaining that his role is now more of a coach than a player and he's a guide for the younger lads coming up.

I'll respond in advance by saying such a role should be filled by someone who can actually play occasionally so they can do all that on the pitch and meaningfully influence games rather than shouting from the technical area (can't actually remember Milner even doing that at any point)

Keeping him on actually highlights the major weakness in our model. We only really sign players if we can flip them for profit later on. That means, aside from the occasional free agent, we have a permanent squad of kids. Last season we really lacked maturity on the pitch at times, especially with Lewis declining and Veltman being injured. Hopefully we have a proper plan to address this rather than just keeping Mr Milner hanging around.
