Which begs the question why do you bother taking it off?FFS why does everything have to have red onion on it? I've developed an intolerance for it now and it's routinely chopped, cut and sliced on everything regardless of what it is. Even if I take it back off, I still can't eat what it was on.

Both potatoes and tobacco were unknown in England as recently as 450 years ago. The same is probably true of chillies (and tomatoes) so it’s an appropriate misread!At first glance I thought you’d said Tobacco
Something to add, rubbing the skin with vegetable oil makes them nice and crispy.
