Didn’t appear to celebrate the second goal much, disappeared down the tunnel quite quickly at the final whistle?

His first season with us, he was a solid 7/10 every single week. No wonder other clubs were looking on him as one of the best LBs in the PL.

Sadly injury and whatever else has caught up with him, and no matter how much I find myself hoping he'll regain those levels, he never has for me, other than showing sporadic glimpses in the odd game. Probably doesn't help that he hasn't had Mitoma so much in the last season & a half, who tracks back and works his arse off whereas Adingra (and Minteh at first, though he's improved massively) doesn't offer the same support.
Bit harsh, I would definitely agree he’s had more ‘off-days’ post injury, but otherwise he remains a steady 7. Until the final 5 minutes against Liverpool, he had played well.

Our tactics also don’t help him, and it looks terrible when we lose possession and he is upfield, but that’s on the manager rather than Pervis, and as you say Adingra offers little in terms of protection….

I don't know if it's just a lack of pace and fitness that has gone since his injury, or whether there's also other things going on.

That totally bizarre shooting decision against Liverpool in the dying minutes of the game seemed to sum it all up. Some of his decision making these days seems really odd at times.
I would argue strongly on the lack of fitness, he must run miles during a game at a very high intensity, rarely getting a break due to lack of cover.

I see exactly where you're going with this, and I'm not playing your game. Any excuse to slate FH and you're bang on it.

What I will accept is that it's very easy to watch and be exasperated for yet another given up attempt at getting back in position by him. The fitness and stamina required must be pretty intense and much easier said than done.

You can't blame anyone else for the poor decision making. Some of his tackling is quite frankly bizarre at times now. He seems to have taken to shoving players as a go to legitimate option, which is a bit weird. He switches off too much as well, leaving huge gaps for opponents to exploit, although he isn't our only defender to do a fair bit of that this season, tbf.

Very unfair, I give plenty of reason and evidence for my FH concerns, and also praise when he gets it spot on, see Liverpool, Spurs and particularly Newcastle away.
I’m not a ‘happy-clappy’ type so will also call out the poor as well…. Sorry if that upsets you…. Your final sentence basically highlights what I said anyway, but we obviously differ in terms of the ‘why’.

You obviously watch a different game to me as Pervis literally runs his bollocks off, and is often against the opponents fastest in the opposition, see Brentford. The decision making is more apparent at the moment, because that last 5 minutes versus Liverpool was frankly bizarre, and Pervis literally did not make one good decision.
If you want to see a player putting practically no effort in to get back, watch Adingra.

As for the shoving, take your point but sometimes it is quite subtle, see the gentle push on Salah at home.

Hold on a minute. So FH is now to blame for defenders switching off and leaving space as well!?

I'm not a happy clapper. FH and the team aren't without faults, as evidenced at various points throughout the season. The battering at Chelski being the most obvious example, after which burning his tactics sheet in front of the players was the last FH could have done, lol.

Anyway, I'll say no more about FH as it risks derailing the thread.

Back on topic. I wonder if Pervis misses Caicedo? The time line of his decline I think could possibly fit in with Caicedo going, perhaps?

Actually ‘yes’ because, our defensive shape was so poor, the switching off ‘no’, but we should never have been in that position. As per my other posts, that was much better at the end of the season. Got it spot on post Brentford and then on, hoping it continues…

Great call re Caicedo and of course Sarmiento as well, but especially Caicedo as I suspect not only was Caicedo world class, but he possibly his closest friend?

Really hope Pervis stays, has a fit Mitoma in front of him, and a CB inside of him with more pace…..

I’d say he’s ok. Generally a 6 . He has been an 8 when he was his best but that seems a distant memory

This is the flip side. He set the bar really high in his first season, so a decline now seems even more marked. I'd say he was a fairly regular 9 for a good while.
