..is tomorrow. Morris dancing sides from around England gather in Brighton to dance around the town centre.
One of my favourite days of the year.

Usually it's not 'just' the traditional Cotswold style (white shirts, black trousers with long white socks, jingly bells and sticks) but also some of the other traditions and new ones.

All kicks off at 10am in Pavilion Gardens with all sides performing and then going round various pubs.

Hope you get some of the serious stuff, not just the gentle hopping round the village green on fetes and high days. The real stuff - at close quarters - can be pretty awesome.

(Speaking as a musician who once played for the top Morris Dancing side (second team) in an enclosed space (a blacked out fire station with all the fire engines parked out on the forecourt and a bar at the top of the bar the firemen slide down) I can verify the speed and the height of the jumps ain't what you see on the village green for the tourists!)

Normally the stench of piss, abhorrent people loitering on unkept grass feeding winged rodents with a side of shit buskers is enough to make me by pass that shit part of Brighton but just in case i was in any doubt then this event will.

Last year, the Hammersmith Morris side were in attendance and featured a couple of young lads who looked like they could have been high jumpers in their schooldays and were reaching prodigious heights. There are also usually some 'dark morris' sides so it's a good mixture. I also know a Hare Krishna who is often out on a Saturday and I was trying to persuade him to come along as well to add another genre of dance.
