Step 2 on my retirement plan starts on Monday - moving to a 4 day week, signed my contract amendment this week.
I strongly recommend this plan. I went down to a 4 day week in January and it is terrific. You don't have to rush around trying to cram everything into a 2 day weekend and you get that Friday feeling on a Thursday. Moving down to a zero day week in July...

I love the idea of a 4 day week. however the job I do and the small business I work for wouldn't support it. I would end up doing stuff on my day off or fretting about it.

I have however just paid off my mortgage 5 minutes ago and so feel that I am also on step 1.

Going to open a lovely bottle of something tonight to celebrate - I think I have a bottle of Blue Nun at the back of the bar....

The fallout is just another blip, shouldn’t impact pensions much given the invest time horizon. Much of the dip has already been recovered anyway……

Just been to Portugal on our annual (now old) gentleman’s golf/pissup, and off to South America with junior next next week for a couple of weeks to tick off another thing on the bucket list (Galapagos Islands). Bruges in July, Cyprus in September and now looking at booking stuff for Christmas and then the US next spring and a safari in the summer. Keeps me busy when not on one of my 3 days a week fishing. 🙂
Are you seeking help for your low self-esteem?

I'm doing well - just started a new job, so I'm going to be kept busy for a while.

I checked my pension pot and I'm set to draw my pension on my 79th birthday, so just over 11 years of working to go :lolol:
I admire your stamina. Hope the job goes well and remember to pace yourself!😁👍

When considering investing in overseas funds it’s important to understand whether or not the investments are hedged against sterling. If they are not then you are adding currency risk to stock risk. When comparing overseas fund performance with UK fund performance, the currency effect should be removed.

The reading I did on that subject is that what you mention is particularly important for bonds (both corporate and government).

Met up with a friend who is a Pensions advisor.
Just turned 58, looking to retire at 59 and has told me that I probably need to do another year so 60.......some friend eh !!

I'm self employed and said that i'm in a very good position. Why not work Tues/Wed/Thurs and turn your phone off Mondays & Fridays. Still earn, work less, and not erode the pension funds and investments too quickly.

Seemed sensible to me.....

Sounds fabulous, who have you booked Galapagos with mate? I'm trying to find a South American / Galapagos package. Also looking at Vietnam and surrounds early '26.

Are you intending to get Spanish residence or planning to buy before the 100% tax on non-resident property purchases is introduced?
Just started my research on this mate, so haven't a scooby but aware I may have, or am about to, miss the boat.

I remember your "Jobs for Oldies" thread from a little while ago - congrats, hoping you got what you wanted / needed, how did your search go?

We transferred all of our pots into one fund company who spread all of the money over lots of funds across the world and it has performed really well over these last 3 years.

couldnt be happier with it to be honest

best thing we ever did and we only went for low/ medium risk portfolios too.
