There is no guarantee that Delap's won't either. Second season syndrome has affected loads of 'star' strikers over the years. If he's going to those wankers then here's hoping it happens to him too.
A closer look at his stats showed his Prem goal return against the Top Seven was 4 in 13, of which 3 were vs Villa and 1 vs Chelsea. Nothing against top 3 Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City in 6 games, nothing against Forest or Newcastle.

With Chelsea dearth of strikers he's likely to have to play 50 matches (so another 10 compared to 2024/25), including a load of travelling in Europe and probably a load of travelling with England. Chelsea fans are not patient and will believe him to be the player that will take them from 5th place to title contenders, so the pressure will be huge.

On the face of it, this deal is a no-brainer for both parties. However, it is risky for Chelsea because he is still raw and if he can't handle the pressure they will not be part of the title race.

The other option for them is to sign a player like Osimhen who is guaranteed to get you goals and has been prolific in 4 of Europe's leagues, including Italy and France. They could easily do that by selling 2-3 players from their bloated squad.

This reduces the chance of Pedro going there. Maybe just Newcastle left as potential suitor for JP.
Not great scenario for getting best fee for him.
It seems that most lot of the Big Six are after at least one this summer. So....

Chelsea - Delap
Man Utd - Cunha
Liverpool - ??
Man City - ?? (Might not sign a striker)
Tottenham - ??
Arsenal - ??
-------------------------------------
Newcastle - ??
Everton - ??

Sesko, Gyokeres, and Ekitike still to decide their futures.

Apparently Chelsea are still in the market for another striker, even with the Delap signing, per SSN Germany. Ekitike the top target.

I would imagine one of Liverpool or Arsenal (if not both) will be out for Isak, which might mean Newcastle in the running for two

It's Chelsea. Since when was (a) spending money or (b) accumulating a massive squad an issue for them?

I can't see anyone seriously bidding for Isak at the sort of price Newcastle would demand. Certainly not Liverpool given they're about to spank £109 million on Wirtz. Have Arsenal got that money, and more importantly are they desperate enough to put all their eggs into one basket and respond to an obvious need rather than doing what they always do and sign some good-but-not-great players in positions they're already fairly well stocked in who are quite artistic and who might improve very slightly but not to the extent that they'll eventually end up anywhere other than Fulham or Saudi?

£30m

WTF? He's young, and a proven PL player. If Chelsea want him, then they think he's good. If they think he's good, then it should be a hell of a lot more than £30m.

Edit - ah, I didn't realise he had a release clause

I am astonished when I think who will be at Man U the answer isn't Is Vic There yet?
Does the Man U manager not rate his former star? ???

Surely at some point Chelsea are going to come unstuck financially. 8yr contract for Jackson in 2023, 6yrs for Nkunku in 2023, 6yrs for Delap now. There's only so far you can kick that can down the road before you hit a kerb.

£30m seems very low.

I guess that was the value of the buy out clause, and Chelsea paying higher wages than anyone else that might have offered?

That was the value of his relegation release clause. There is no point in any team offering more than that as it doesn’t gain them any advantage and they would be spending money they don’t need to.

It’s NOT higher wages!! It’s the contract duration and the total potential contract value. Chelsea are the only club that are routinely handing out these career-covering contracts. That’s the attraction.

They have billions to piss around with and smart with numbers. Our old boys they signed for £200m are now in the champions league, Sanchez may not be though 🤣
