Fascinating to see how Freo bounce back from abject misery last week, it doesnt get much bigger than a live game of an evening against (sadly) the best supported team in the comp. I'm slightly reassured that he pies have rested four of their more influential players cos of the four hour flight, i appreciate that
i'd just like to compete really, and not get embarrassed! is that too much to ask? Pies by 15 points
I'd be happy with that

gah, one point out :p shouldve put a couple of quid on the winning margin really, gave it a decent bash but beaten by a better team - and man, am i going to be saying that a few times this season now i suspect - GWS away next week . . .
Missed match due to being on me holidays (Ibiza, thank you for asking) but my Pies-supporting mates down under (Byron Bay, thank you for asking) report that Jamie Elliot scored 6 goals and Bobby Hill scored 3. As you say, Freo gave it a very decent bash against a team that often runs hot n cold but today done good

Dont like that rival thread at all - this is the foremost AFL-based thread on this provincial corner of t'net!

in other news, a cavalcade of brilliantly close finishes this weekend, i particulalrly liked Geelong getting turned over by a sliver vs the Giants - and obvs west coast losing at richmond in a heartbreaker was wonderful entertainment

I missed all the games this weekend as I was busy, but I was pleased to see the Eagles finally win a tough one against the Saints, in extremely difficult circumstances. They were both before my time following footy closely, but it was absolutely shocking to hear the tragic news on Saturday about Adam Selwood taking his own life, just 3 months after his brother was lost the same way. Cant imagine what their family is going through right now.

I don’t watch AFL at all but that story really got me.
So sad. 2 parents, 2 younger brothers, 2(?) wives and 4 children left behind😢

Its so desperately sad. There is a higher rate of suicide among people who have lost a parent/sibling/partner to suicide, when i would have presumed that the opposite would be true - if you've been through the experience of losing someone to suicide it would forever completely rule that out as an option.
But thats for people who arent suffering from depression and suicidal ideation, and its easy to say something like 'i could never do that to my family'.
but thats the point - serious depression makes people feel like they are a burden to their family, and they think that they are helping them, by offing themselves and ceasing to be such a 'problem' to them.
Its hard to get into that mindset for people who havnt suffered from depression - i never have, and (open disclosure here, but very relevant in this conversation) my sister killed herself nearly 22 years ago. I'm lucky in that i havnt plunged those depths, and i hope never to.

I really feel for the whole Selwood family, its such a horrible story, i wish them all lots of love. Four brothers, all of whom played professional AFL, and for two of them- the identical twins - to have killed themselves, bloody hell.

But it's great news for the Blues, with De Koning back from his throat injury and joined by Blake Acres and Sam Docherty, with Elijah Hollands to miss through personal reasons.

Hollands missed the opening five games of the season after taking personal leave and has played five games since his return, but has withdrawn from Saturday's match against GWS.

"Our support for Elijah remains ongoing, with the focus being on what is in the best interests of his personal health and wellbeing," Carlton football boss Brad Lloyd said.

"As we know, the journey is certainly not linear when it comes to this space, and as a club we will ensure Elijah is given all the time, care and support he needs."

Hope Elijah Hollands gets back out there asap, hes an exciting young player. Sounds like Carlton are dealing with it in the right way though.

Good game.

I hate the goal music though.

Cracking game of football, I really must go more often.

Not sure we deserved it though.
