This seems as good an opportunity as any to mention my theory that David Dickinson and Donald Trump are the same person.

You know, I’ve never seen them in the same room at the same time. You could be onto something. On a tangential note, if many old English surnames relate to a person’s profession, does Dickinson suggest a family prone to incest and paedophilia?

It's actually a very American sounding thing isn't it: the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

US sports fans don't really seem to care much what the stadiums are called so long as somebody pays for them, at least for most of the clubs. FC Dallas used to play at Pizza Hut Park, the Colorado Rapids run out at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, the Chicago White Sox's stadium is named Guaranteed Rate Field after a mortgage company.

Meanwhile the Nashville Predators (NHL) once played at the Gaylord Entertainment Center, which somewhat disappointingly for those of us who grew up in England in the 1980s and 90s, has since been renamed the Bridgestone Arena. Gaylord, as everybody knows of course, is an upscale hotel brand popular in the United States, owned by Marriott.

Changing their home kit to orange and making ticket prices cheap as chips.

A very fair point. It does.

Here in Cleveland we have Huntington Bank Field (Browns - NFL), Progressive Field (Guardians - MLB) and Rocket Arena (Cavaliers - NBA). And, of course, the names have all changed at various times.

Firm with very strong local history (more than American Express for example) and I suspect fans will refer to it as Bramley-Moore Dock anyway.

.. but that's snobbery for you.

Our stadium is named after an piece of American plastic and doesn't have an official non sponsored name either.

Cue childish sniggering from UK visitors to Disney World when they pass Gaylord Palms just outside the theme parks.
