I am basically useless and most jobs I do end up not much better than a bodge job.

Jealous of those that can do just about everything.

I will have missed options, let me know what they are and I will endeavour to add them.

I'd compare myself to Mats Weiffer. Very dodgy initially, with the odd high profile calamity, wasn't involved in any for a while after that and had to deal with doubts voiced about my ability.

But then got my head down, worked hard at my game and recent work has been impressive enough to silence those doubters

Can you add 'Refuse to pay that much money for something that can't be that hard, attempt to do it myself and then end up paying someone twice the original amount to come and undo the mess I've made'.

Thanks.

having been a labourer in my youth, i'll turn my hand to anything. but also because finishing was done by proper trades, i'm not necessarily much good at anything that needs a tidy job, except electrical.

I think that’s almost covered by the “I earn enough to get someone else to do it” :lolol:

I'm fairly competent at most DIY jobs around the house. Mainly thanks to the huge number of YouTube videos explaining most jobs in detail.

I'm renovating a bathroom at the moment. Still in the demolition phase of the project. I may revisit this thread if a I mess up the tiling or the shower floor level!

I'll call in a professional for things like plumbing though.

I can do most things - won't touch plumbing though. I choose not to because I HATE HATE HATE DIY !

Avoid electrics and plumbing, other than that I'll do pretty much anything else. Some of it turns good some of it less so but it'll still be able to say 'I did that'.

I'm a decent enough painter - Dad was a decorator so I picked up some good habits.

But apart from that I'm pretty useless. Sometimes I can fudge a fix until I can get someone competent in to actually fix whatever it is.

Flat pack furniture is my domain. Ain't no piece of IKEA tat that I can't cobble together.

Got both electrical and gas qualifications.
I do my own electrics and appliances etc.
Give me a bit of wood though and I'm screwed, can make a decent matchstick out a good piece of 4x2

I can do most things you’d class as DIY.

I spent a very odd year as a maintenance worker in a building in Surrey. I hated it and vowed never to do much DIY again and now usually get someone in to do all but the smallest of jobs.

I have most tools so I can do a job in an emergency or if I’m 💯 that I can make a good job of it.

I enjoy working on my motorbike and tinkering in the shed. I’ll put up a shelf or a cabinet no probs but life is too short to be messing about with anything bigger.
