I’d be more interested in being a snidey bastard for £27k a year.

It seems a sad sign of the times that the club deems it's worth £27K to stop someone lending a mate or relative his season ticket (that has been fully paid for) if he can't go one week.
I'd far rather go after genuine touts, including firms like Ticketmaster, who are basically legalised ticket touts.

Can’t be a proper football fan who ever applies for the job.

Imagine if we ever did become good at set pieces - it probably equates to an extra 6-9 points a season. We would be in with a good chance of top 6 with a near full strength squad for most of the season,

We'll never solve this as all we ever appoint is ex players.

We should go and pinch Brentford's. ;)

I know a guy, Man United fan, who was shortlisted for a very senior role in the day to day running of Man United and withdrew his application when he realised how bad days at work would affect him too deeply. Being invested in the club so much more than just being an employee alone must be hard, particularly if the decisions you’re making are the kind that might make you unpopular with colleagues from time to time.

Anyone applying?

Deliver and oversee the offensive and defensive set piece strategy
Come and join the Seagulls for the 2025/26 season and beyond with our men’s first team as a set piece specialist!

In this role, you will lead the development of our set-piece strategy, designing and delivering innovative coaching practices to bring it to life on the pitch. You’ll conduct in-depth analysis of opposition behaviours and patterns to identify strengths, exploit weaknesses, and stay ahead of emerging trends. Your insights and creativity will play a key role in helping BHAFC set the standard and strive for excellence.

What we are looking for
You will have proven experience in delivering in an elite men’s first team environment and a strong interest in set-piece innovation and delivery. In terms of qualification, you will need to hold a UEFA A Licence. You will have expectational communication skills, be a collaborator and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

I also see they want a librarian, preferably to have worked at Vicarage Rd 🤫

Yep, £27K would be like blood money to a football fan! Professional snitch on fellow fans.
Imagine if we ever did become good at set pieces - it probably equates to an extra 6-9 points a season. We would be in with a good chance of top 6 with a near full strength squad for most of the season,
Better spend an extra £27K towards getting a better set-piece coach.

I get what they are going for here:

But it does rather make it look like "Exceed Expectations" and "Act with Integrity" are not selected and therefore not part of the job.
Excellent point. Also, what does any of that mean? That shit that makes my eyes glaze over. Make it Special? What?! Bring it a birthday cake?

Also Aim High, Never Give Up… and Exceed Expectations. Hang on, how could I possibly exceed my expectations when I’m aiming high and never giving up? Surely by aiming high I don’t have a finite expectation, therefore would be unable to exceed it.

Utter garbage.

Dear Mr jcdenton08,

Thank you for your recent application (we’re using the term loosely) for the role of Set Piece Coach here at Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club.

While we were initially intrigued by your spirited engagement with our job description, particularly your searing deconstruction of our motto “Make it Special", we regret to inform you that we will not be proceeding with your application at this time, or at any other time, up to and including the death of the universe.

Your existential inquiry into the paradox of exceeding expectations while simultaneously aiming high was, we admit, philosophically robust. Unfortunately, we were looking for someone who nods along in meetings with Paul Barber and occasionally says “love that” with the dead-eyed enthusiasm of a LinkedIn influencer. Not someone who sees through the smoke, the mirrors, and the PowerPoint animations.

Your suggestion that we bring our company mission statement a birthday cake was noted. We did, in fact, try it. It did not respond well to sponge.

Please don’t take this as a reflection on your abilities. Rather, take it as a reflection on ours. Specifically, our inability to handle the truth. Or sarcasm. Or people with follow-up questions.

Should we ever pivot from “pioneering blue-sky agile deliverables” to “calling out the emperor’s lack of clothing in a public square,” you will be our first call.

Until then, please aim high, never give up, and exceed your expectations — somewhere else.

With warmest regards and meaningless corporate cheer,
HR Team
Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club
“Make it Special” — or at least, make it quiet.
