Amazon are planning to display the portion of an item's cost that is related to tariffs, apparently. It's really pissed off the White House who were presumably hoping that consumers would continue to believe the lie that the tariff is a tax on the country of origin.

Beautiful. According to Leavitt, it's a "hostile, political act" and Amazon is now Chinese "propaganda". Oh, and obviously what about "Biden hiking inflation"

Amazon knows that post-tariff shipments will start hitting American shores soon and there’s going to be a backlash against retailers by MAGA folk too dumb to realise why their prices have just gone sky high.
He can't lose face anymore. The supporters he had left will support him no matter what.

In 2024, the United States imported $412.7 billion worth of goods from Canada. Key import categories include crude oil (US oil is it great for fuel), refined petroleum, vehicles and heavy machinery. They are also reliant on fertilisers. In short they have very good cards and Trump doesn’t. If he’d left of the world alone and focussed on Canada alone then he would be in a much better position but as he’s a weapons grade idiot he didn’t.

The MAGA faithful will know. They just don't want to face reality. I had MAGA "friend" say to me "Do the Chinese really think Trump is hearing voices when he says they are negotiating tariffs and the Chinese say they are not?" I said it's obvious Trump is lying. He said there is no way Trump is lying about that. They just won't accept reality.

But once he's done his trade deal with Russia he'll get oil, petrol and fertiliser from them, probably at a better price.
I think that's the most cheerful story I've read in ages, regarding Trump's tariffs.

But as an aside, I think's it's possible that Trump truly believe's his own lie that other countries pay the tariffs. He is that simple.
He always gets it wrong and then says he was joking. This is no different.

Right, so they’ll deny (to themselves) the reality that prices have gone up due to tariffs. Blaming the retailers will be a comfortable alternative.
It was the same with Brexit. Economic damage/lack of progress on a deal was the fault of (depending on day of the week), the EU, Remoaners, Lefty Lawyers, treacherous Judges, the EU, the Lefty BBC, the WTO, the EU, Theresa May, Lefty Remoaners, the EU….

No they are not.
They only considered it internally (it was leaked) and never for the main Amazon site but the idea never got any traction.

The White House originally called Amazon's reported plan a "hostile and political act."

Trump is very much a simple-solutions-for-simple-people type of guy. It really will have come as a shock to him when it crashed the stock market and, even worse, caused a sell off of US treasury bonds.
