Anyone watching tonight - Need You Dead.

Not sure why I’m putting myself through it - other than Mrs PGTips mentioned watching it and a sive had a rather large G&T and some Rioja … I quite fancy a snooze. Will see how it goes.

It’s a bit ham but the Brighton references make it watchable for me. Sunday evening live tv is not great!

Have you ever watched them? Feckin ‘ell, they make Death In Paradise look half decent. 🤣
Beg to differ. Death in Paradise is shot very well with loads of decent camera angles to show off the wonderful surroundings. Madame Blanc is completely unprofessional and doesn't take advantage at all of the southern French surroundings. Those kind of mystery shows are very similar in format, but having watched a couple of the blanc things, I can honestly say they are truly terrible in every aspect possible., so I guess they are at least the best at something.

The TV adaptation is quite different to the book. I’m pretty certain the rogue cop in the book was Guy Batchelor - named after a chap I knew when I worked. He bid at an auction to be in one book but got to know Peter James quite well and ended up in a few before he eventually went rogue. He went to prison and whilst there fed info back to Grace about Pewe and his criminal activity (but that was in a subsequent book).

I gave up on this series a while back because I think it’s just really dull personally, and I know the stories having read most of the books so I’m only watching it for the location shooting.

The locations in the books are largely correct, so the RSCH is correctly named/placed etc, but in the television series lots of locations are renamed (such as in the last episode which in the book takes place at the Amex, but was changed for TV).

According to Richard Osman in his The Rest is Entertainment podcast, this is because in books you can largely write whatever you like (as long as it isn’t libellous, etc) without permission being needed to use brand names.

When it comes to television, the rules are much stricter about what you can and can’t name or do, fees to be paid, permission to be given - etc. Lots of brands won’t consent to their brand being used negatively. For example, a bomb in the Amex isn’t a good look for either American Express or the club, even when fictional. It’s the same reason Apple have a “no villains” clause where the baddies can’t be seen using iPhones.

The Royal Peacehaven Hospital isn’t an oversight by the creators, it’s purely to avoid a sticky legal wicket.

It was Peacehaven General in tonight’s episode, would mentioning Brighton General really be a legal issue?

Newhaven Port featured a few weeks back and was called Newhaven Port, a few seasons back a scene was shot at Newhaven Marina but Grace mentioned he was going to Shoreham

According to Richard Osman, apparently so. James makes loads of mistakes in the books - I tried tracking the route Grace ran once. I believe he was running down New England Street, and took a right onto Palmeira Square…
