Not often I am left feeling outraged but this has ticked me off

Hashem Abedi was found guilty in 2020 of 22 counts of murder, attempted murder and conspiracy to cause an explosion likely to endanger life

Hashem Abedi was later convicted of a previous attack on two prison officers at Belmarsh Prison in south-east London along with two others."

And now this:

"Two male officers remain in hospital with serious injuries. A female officer was discharged from hospital on Saturday.

Abedi threw hot oil at the officers and stabbed them with blades fashioned from cooking trays, the prison officers

Abedi was suspected of making knives out of a baking tray from the kitchen, with one officer suffering a severed artery after being stabbed in the neck, and another receiving severe stab wounds to the back."

Hopefully he’ll now rot in solitary, without access to anything that will hurt someone else.

Problem is he's inside forever. He doesn't care. The best way to deal with these people is isolation. They've lost all the rights. It's down to the basics until they can prove they are no threat. Which I suggest is never for this coward.

to replace retiring experienced prison officers with properly trained people.
He said that 'fear of upsetting Muslim prisoners' was a nonsense trope.
When there are people who know what they are doing this doesn't happen.
It was a case of institutional incompetence.)

Undeniably guilty of a genuinely evil crime, will never be reformed in any sense and is a constant danger to everyone around him. Why don't we hang the bastard exactly?
He's not even rotting in prison because he's obviously getting off on attacking guards.
There should be the option of the death penalty in these instances of repeat offending. Do we allow him to attack prison guards over and over again for the rest of his life? How is that moral?

Being one o them lefties I normally don’t necessarily agree with the death penalty, torture, prison violence etc etc generally trying to find a different way, look outside the box and so on.

In this instance I’m putting my moral compass in the kitchen drawer and will happily turn a blind eye to any number of screws making a daily visit to his cell and giving him a fuckin good kicking.

To me, this is less of a story than a "we should string him up, ra ra ra" and more about the complete failure of the prison service to protect their staff.

It completely beggars belief that this bloke was able to get kitchen duties, which is surely the highest risk activity someone there can be given. What kind of risk assessment was carried out on this?

The underlying here is that it's probably not the fault of the individual prison employees. Completely understaffed and anecdotally with low morale and lacking experience. These are the sort of mistakes which I guess will be made.

Prisons is an area of the public estate we need to get right ... And we're not

This. Should never have been given the remotest opportunity to do what he’s done. Bare cell, mattress and one book, food and drink served in/on paper cups and plates through a flap in the door. No mixing with any other prisoners or contact with staff. Forever. Inhumane ? Yes, but deserved. ****.

He forewent his liberty with his involvement in the atrocity. How he was able to be given these privileges after the first attack on prison officers is absolutely baffling to me, and most others. This man should be given the bare minimum required to subsist until he dies the solitary death he sorely deserves.

the problem seems that some want to give prisoners generally too much leeway, concerned about their rights and rehabilitation, over the punishment aspect of being convicted of a crime. there's a time and place for that, but they'd rather give all criminals the benefit of the doubt, without accepting some are just nasty and treat appropriately.
