[Albion] Why did VAR waste time calling the ref to the monitor for Mitoma's handball v. Villa?

Mansfield Woodhouse, actually.
I'm just curious as to why this aspect of Adingra's disallowed goal doesn't appear to have been acknowledged on NSC, where so many people despise the time VAR spend scrutinising.

When VAR came in, they didn’t use the monitor and people moaned about games being refereed by someone who wasn’t even there. So, ever since, we’ve had to waste more time with this fairly pointless charade.

If it's clear and obvious the ref shouldn't need to go to the screen. They always go with the VAR decision, so VAR should just tell them to change it and get on with the game.

But the MotD commentator seemed to be implying the opposite in this match from a fortnight ago, where the referee turned down a penalty appeal. I tried to make this reply a week ago but I couldn't find the other two screenshots showing the missing subtitles, but the gist of it was "referee has given his verdict, checked and cleared. You rather feel that if the referee's decision had been a penalty then VAR would have gone along with it "

And the foul in the box on Pedro's 2nd penalty conversion. Still hoping for a third penalty.

Minteh going for "missed by that much" hat trick also.
