There might be a few people put off , but most people don't / won't care who is in charge

Couldn't get a seat to Orlando this week on direct services on BA/Virgin

My guess is that a significant few % of European and Asian holiday makers won’t now travel to the US. Because of the long lead time on long haul holidays, it will take a while to emerge.

Conversely, Trump’s wrecking ball is rapidly lowering the value of the USD, making it better value than for many years. That might balance it out?

I’d still holiday there, despite despising MAGA. Almost all New England and for example DC, also the West Coast is hugely Democrat. Personal views, but I don’t see a reason to ‘punish’ those people.

To answer the OP, I had no intentions of visiting America anyway, but this has sealed the deal and I doubt very much I’ll ever go back. I’ve been 8 times, driven the One, been to New York City several times, Vegas, all of California, Washington DC. I truly don’t feel the need to ever go back, short of taking hypothetical kids to Orlando one day.

The political climate hasn’t helped, but it wasn’t the clincher. I’m just done with America generally.

She states that she got the green card ten years ago. She is therefore eligible to apply for US citizenship; I'm surprised she hasn't.

My green card came due for renewal in 2019 and I had the option of renewing it or applying for citizenship. Given that Trump was President, with his rhetoric on immigration, I reasoned that there was a small, but non-zero chance that things might get messy for anyone who wasn't a citizen. It was certainly a factor in deciding to get my US citizenship (I've always expected to permanently return to the UK at some point, but I want that to happen on my terms, not the US Government's).

This is simply horrific.

They moved Mahmoud Khalil c1,000 miles to a state where they had a Trump-appointed immigration judge who has made a politically motivated decision to deport someone who has full legal-entitlement to live in the USA and has not committed a crime.

And Trump, Musk and all the associated ****s say they are in favour of free speech. Are they f***.

No one could ever foresee the US becoming like this.

I think tourism will slump to the US, similar to us after Brexit.

Toxic nationalism isn't appealing

Its sad because half the country does have a brain
Down by three quarters? I doubt it. (Though there were other causes besides Brexit for the fall in 2020 and 2021 visitors.)

It does feel like the whole thing has been scripted by Margaret Attwood. And I fear there is far more we haven't heard about or are yet to see.
