Reading a light and interesting story on the Beeb pages, I wondered how much time we spend focused on the negative aspects of life. Also in NSC, bad news often gets brought here. But what about the light and happy stuff ?

So I thought to start a thread where folk can share light, funny and happy stories as often as wanted. You'd be surprised how spending a while reading good stuff can raise your mood.

So I'll start with the Desertas Island snails. Thought to be extinct a long time ago. Found, made safe and repatriated to a safe home.

The funniest line was (the colour code) 'will allow us to spot them and track where they disperse to..' I wouldn't worry too much about that. If you return six months later I'm guesing they won't have gone far :lolol:

I used to keep racing Snails.

In an effort to speed one up I removed its shell, but if anything, it just made it more sluggish.

Sad that a thread like this doesn't gain much traction, especially as there is so much gloom. So today I give you...

The German word for slug is Nacktschnecke which literally translates as nude snail. Makes sense.

The Germans do like a literal translation. I am sure Bat is Fledermaus, which is flying mouse.
I think us Brits are good at it too. Take the simplistic nature of some of the place names in Australia. My favourite is 'Lake Disappointment' One can only imagine that after a two or three days hike, and bereft of water, the explorer was rather miffed to find the place had ran dry.

In a pile of football shirts
We met a young family, including their 4 year old son Kaan, on holiday in Northern Cyprus in 2004 (after our millennium stadium triumph), we stayed in touch and have visited them many times since and they’ve visited us too. I took their son Kaan to the Amex back in the Championship days, he’s always called us his ‘god parents’ and always greets me as uncle Phil. Kaan just got engaged to Beyza and she’s messaged me to say she’s looking forward to meeting Uncle Phil and Aunty ‘Superphil’ when we visit TRNC in July.

It’s a cheery story for me, the message has improved my mood today for sure.

Not so much for the news itself, but the name he chose is amazing

Right, I’ll tell you an anecdote.

In 1974 I was catching the London train from Crewe station. It was very crowded; I found myself in a last-minute rush for the one remaining seat beside a tall, good-looking man with collar-length hair, it was the seventies; buckaroo! I looked up and saw it was none other than Peter Purves, it was the height of his Blue Peter career. He said, "You jammy bastard" and quick as a flash, I replied, "Don't be blue, Peter!" Needless to say, I had the last laugh, now f*** off!

Best I could find:

Cherries offer a range of health benefits, including supporting heart health, improving sleep, and aiding in exercise recovery. They are rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, and can help reduce inflammation and boost immunity

I had to laugh:
Spent a couple of hours removing part of a path in the garden. Took up the flagstones and there was a concrete base. Took that up and what did I find underneath it ?
ANOTHER F...ING PATH WITH A CONCRETE BASE !
