[Albion] Reasons to be Optimistic post Villa Defeat

- We played well -at times really well - and in most games looking like the one yesterday, we get something. We we're a lot better yesterday than in the 2-2 in January. No news that Aston Villa likes playing teams like us where they'll get far with grit, experience and edge quality. But they certainly did not have a comfy evening until the 0-2.

- Impressed by how well several players from the Forest game had recovered mentally and physically, not least Mitoma, raising my belief that we will be truly up for the task against Palace.

- Gruda was really good again and looks like he could be a key player in the final months.

- Dunk looks like chilling a few months haven't done him any harm, looks fit and generally did well.

- Debut for Cashin. Ok, he was slightly shit but no more than I expected from a 5th CB PL debutant who haven't played football for three months, and there was definitely some promising signs in how hungry he looked to find spaces and opening passes. Interesting player but until he gets a summer and pre-season with us, I'd prefer him in the background and instead play Baleba or Wieffer out of position and settle for giving Cashin minutes in games that are already won or lost.
I’m not quite sure how Weiffer isn’t getting into this side when Baleba isn’t playing?

What is the point of him if he can’t even fill that role?

He's been either unfit or not match fit since arriving whereas Ayari, Gomez and Baleba all have done well and been available to get match rhythm.

Playing as CB is slightly less demanding so maybe he can play there without immediately breaking into pieces.

He’s been fit for quite a while though… and you only get match fit by playing. It’s not stopped us giving Gomez loads of minutes despite not being match fit, for example, or stopped us starting Gruda at 10 who’s barely played all year…

No, they don't. Villa were there for the taking last night despite their upturn in form. That 1st goal gifted to them meant we had to commit to attack which made it easy for them to pick us off on the counter. I hope Forest turn them over at weekend and get smashed in Europe!
Hope they beat Palace in the FA Cup though

Don’t forget he‘s short as well clearly something to do with his DNA ideal for Brighton according to one poster 😉

We will be 8th at best. We will not overtake any of the 7 above us. We have lost ground these midweek games.
Just redone the Fishy predictor thing and had us coming 7th just ahead of Villa.

Villa competing on 3 fronts will be a factor.
They play - Forest - PSG x 2 , Saints and Newcastle in the next 2 weeks.
We play Palace, Leicester, Brentford.

It's still incredibly tight 5th -9th - nothing to be ruled in or out, just yet.
And then there is the opportunity that City may face a points deduction.

Fortunately Huerzeler and the players will only be focussed on Saturday and we will have to wait and see how it plays out

No matter how you spin it, last night was a poor result. However, in the season that we finished 6th. After match no. 30 we had 46 points. Now after 30 games we have 47 points, so it is still doable and in our hands .
In this topsy turvy season who knows what league position will earn a European spot ?
This. Impossible to predict atm

Not sure it's classed as a resaon to be optimistic, but something that did make me genuinely LOL last night in the first half (and I've not seen it referenced elsewhere), was Perv cutting out a ball over the top with some kind of kung fu/scissor/overhead kick in mid-air that (I think) then went out of play. It genuinely looked hilarious and I'm not 100% sure there was a need for it, but it stopped the ball on its way to another Villa attack.

Some of the movement from Joao Pedro in the first half was pretty filthy, too

We had 49 points after 30 matches in 2022-23.

Well, look at your post history. When was the last time you said anything positive about Brighton or anyone playing for Brighton?
Naturally you think he is bad like you think everyone and everything is all the time.

We win some, we lose some.

It’s POTG (part of the game) and why we POTG (pay on the gate) or POTG (pay on the google pay) or POTG (pass over the gap)
