I can tell you one thing: there is no way on earth he's coming back here.
No I've figured that much, but wouldn't mind if we got an extra £20m for him.

I assume it's moot at that point. Nobody can force him to sign a contract if he doesn't want to.
In this particular case it has been reported by multiple reputable journalists that the deal between the clubs included an obligation* to buy.

*an obligation, not an option

For that to be the case it would have to be that the player has already agreed to the move [ie signed the contract] because, as you say, he can't be forced into something against his will.

Can we assume that's what you've heard from the club? Or is it personal opinion?

What's he done for you/the club to have that stdong an attitude towards him?
If nothing else: when Ferdi got a long term injury and Sevilla ruled out playing Barco, we were only willing to bring him back (from losing value in Sevilla) if there was a new club willing to take him on. Clearly there is a problem and he won't be with us again. Obviously I don't know any details, but that much is clear.

...unless there's some sort of Undav-esque curveball somewhere...

I've got no strong feelings about him either way, but I've been told the move didn't work out and he'll not be returning.

I was surprised as everyone else.

There is obviously something that some people seem to know about, but aren't telling - which is absolutely as it should be.

But it does leave the rest of us wondering about whose missus he might have shagged!
Sorry, I'm not trying to be coy - I haven't got juicy gossip I'm keeping to myself.

From what I can observe and reading between the lines, my hunch is he very much failed the "no dickheads" test, but I'll stress that is my guess and not something I've been told.

Yeah, clearly something didn't work out. And it feels like it might be more than just performance, since we'd surely give him some more time to develop.

Maybe it's as simple as he hated the British weather.

Or maybe he expected to just walk on to the team and was pissed to find out that he'd have to earn it.

Either way. A shame. But sometimes these things happen.

OK, not ITK, but that opinion is pretty much where all of us are, I think (and we're all speculating!)

My suspicion and reasonable guess is that he did not really want to go on loan to Sevilla, rather, he wanted to stay here with his chum Facu in the 1st team.

A catastrophic strop ensued where by he did not put any effort or graft into the Spanish loan both soiling our reputation with that particular club/league as a loaner of future stars and failing our no DH policy.

Can’t see much more to it than that.

I bet he gets dozens of Argentina caps……

According to some of the things Hurz said when Barco left (going to sleep now and cba find the exact quotes), Barco didn't believe he was good enough to start for us. It sounded odd. I don't think they got along very well, and I also don't think Barco wanted to stay.

It is all a bit odd leaving us fans guessing what could have been the issue.

One thing is for sure, he looks a lad with loads of potential talent needing development and typical Brighton type of signing (young/ SA/ relatively cheap) but we did a very un-Brighton thing and shipped him out permanently with no route back (unlike Enciso, Buononotte, ACD, Osman, Suma and even Ayari, Mitoma, Adringa, etc. etc..).

Especially as a defender which we're desperate for.

Something happened which completely wrecked the relationship between the club and the player to be shown the exit so quickly and thoroughly that's for sure.
