I'd rather he came on to replace Dunk and played again on Wednesday.

Genuine chance he could be asked to play 420 minutes in 14 days.
Which might risk his availability for the rest of the season.
Did Dunk need so much resting when he was van Hecke’s age?

I think there's a strong possibility that some of our players who have travelled, might not be in the best shape for 120 minutes.
Forest are an extremely well drilled side, who I can see frustrating us for the first 75 minutes.

I would much rather our better players were being brought on to win the game, than being replaced with extra time and penalties looming.
You won't get what you want. Van Hecke is our best defender and will start this semi-final.

It doesn't matter if he'd be better off on a beach somewhere. He's starting.

I can’t believe anyone is suggesting we rest players for this match. It’s the biggest match of the season. JPvH and Mitoma must play. I can see why Welbs would play as Pedro might not last 120 minutes and we need him for the penalties if they happen, but otherwise we have to go as strong as possible
We're not going to win on on penalties. If it gets to that point we're cooked.

I’m in the camp where we leave some serious top level fire power (recent tran-continental travellers) on the bench.

———————-Verbruggen————————
Hinshelwood—JPvH——Webster—-Estupiñán
Minteh——-Baleba————Wieffer——Adingra
—————————Rutter—————————-
———————-—Welbeck—————————

They score first, we lose IMHO. Let’s make that virtually impossible for them!

What they can’t do is break low blocks down. They rarely face them because they play one themselves. Let’s focus on not conceding for 70 minutes with Minteh and Adingra essentially playing wing backs and Baleba and Wieffer blocking out the centre.

We then bring on Gomez, Pedro and Mitoma to chop them down and send them through the chipper in the 2nd half.

Yeah, the team pretty much picks itself based on form, workload, injuries and minutes. That is unless FH is going to try some new system, which seems very unlikely given most of the squad won’t have been around for any training.
He was forced into it due to player unavailability…………won’t happen today.

Did Dunk need so much resting when he was van Hecke’s age?
Did he play Nations league quarterfinals at Van Hecke's age?

I would prefer he plays, but only if he is physically up to it.
My opinion is based on nothing more than the volume of football Van Hecke has played this year.
The idea of losing him fo3-4 weeks, at this point of the season, doesn't bear thinking about.

Forest will be parking the bus and hoping to hit us on the break.
Dunk should be up to that, for 60 minutes.

Fortunately the club will have the data to support the decision.

Have the club said anything to suggest he isn’t ’physically up’ for it?..

As far as I know he’s fit to start, therefore as our best centre back by a country mile he starts. It’s a no brainer.

So, post FH presser it sounds as though Veltman and Lamptey are out. Dunk and O'Riley could be fit, and Mitoma should be fit.

I'd go

Verbruggen
Hinshelwood, JPvH, Webster, Pervis
Baleba, Wieffer
Minteh, Georginio, Mitoma
Welbeck

I'd bench Joao Pedro and Gomez to avoid having 6 starters coming off the back of playing in different continents.

Quite fancy Wieffer to start to give us a bit of robust-ness in midfield, but that may just be a bit of PTSD from the last time we met. I'd expect FH to go with Ayari, though.
How good is our current squad that it is reasonable to Bench Joao, Gomez and Dunky

The Guardian's thoughts:

Why does the Guardian persist with predicting lineups when they never bother to check who's injured?
