Legendary Radio 1 DJ has sadly died, aged just 76.

Colleague Mike Read shared the news on X this morning, saying he was "devastated" about the passing of his friend.

The last ever interview with John Lennon, weeks before he was shot.

Andy, a keen Manchester City fan who was once the PA announcer at Maine Road, was also an acclaimed cricket commentator.

I'm a bit confused about the cricket commentary but. I'm guessing it must have been a local thing in Lancashire.

Andy Peebles was the host of the first Radio 1 Roadshow I saw in Brighton. July 27th 1981

I seem to remember him from.TOTP too. I don't recall listening to his radio shows, so I'm guessing they were not at matching times for school life.

Still, a famous old name from the time. RIP

Sad - RIP. I remember him at the Radio 1 roadshow at Eastbourne back in the day - huge cricket fan as I recall - and soul music of course

Yes, so that would have been 28.07.1981.

25 miles would have won you Smiley Miley. The important thing was to remember it from two or three years before and get yourself near the front.
