I was expecting an 18 month wait like my pal had to endure.
Much to my astonishment, it took only 3 weeks to get a consultant appointment, and he has booked me in for a full knee replacement next month.
That's NHS, but using a private hospital near Maidstone (KIMS).
It even has free parking

So I need to prep myself pretty quickly.
No more booze is one vow.

I know a few of you chaps have had a full knee replacement. Do you have any important tips?

Cheers. HWT.

Before the op, make sure the surgeon marks the correct knee (no, I’m not joking), and ask them to ensure they put the new one in the right way round (otherwise you’ll have that leg bending like a flamingo’s).

Good luck!

You are awake during it aren’t you? So you can keep an eye on what they are doing, and offer some advice if needed :lolol:

This is true.
No doubt I will be demanding to be moisturized, especially after the second armful of heroin.

Or like early Hollywood star, Betty Grable. An effect that startled Louis B. Mayer!

When you say no more booze do you feel that’s what’s caused your knee problems? I’m 63, drink a fair bit and am just experiencing some really bad knee pain. I’m awaiting a consultancy appointment but wondered what I can do to help in the meantime?

I had both my knees replaced with wheels of cheese , it was all downhill from there.

No, not at all.
I am using the op as a trigger to make some changes, especially losing some weight,
plus I have been overdoing the sauce and need to row back.

When you see the consultant, will you have had X-ray and MRI already done?
They need this to make a sensible diagnosis.

What they do for you depends on what you want.
Eight years ago I told the consultant I wanted to cycle and hopefully ski again.
So they did things for me.
Otherwise they would have just said 'take it easy'.

I have had two meniscus tear repairs (the first 40 years ago, the last 20 years ago),
And some tidying up of a bony growth on the inside of the knee cap 8 years ago.
Then I did my ACL about 6 years ago
A steroid injection last year helped the pain and swelling a great deal.
But the knee is now arthritic, and unstable, and I can get sudden sharp pain that sometimes prevents me standing on it for a day.

Hope it goes well for you!

I’d request morphine over heroin

I have never tried heroin though in fairness
I was playing fast and loose with the pharmacological actuality there, for purposes of low comedy.
Yes, it will be morphine.

If H's todger is around his knee, I'm not sure he needs a quote 😲
There's a lady in the US called Mrs Bobbit who performs a todger reduction service.

Anaesthetic is optional ....

It's a vasectomy, all in one. I think it's called Chop-chop but I've not Googled it to see the reviews on Trust Pilot.
