I'm watching Man Utd. Should want them to win to keep the 5th team in the UCL, but it's so hard.

The other English teams are doing well enough to make up for Utd.

But if UTD or Spurs win the competition, doesn't that mean one of the CL spots is taken away?

Young Shim Mhueka - spirited away from the Albion academy at 14, is starting up front for Chelsea in Copenhagen.

Chelsea, with Palmer finally in the side after sitting the group stage games out, struggling to create anything threatening against Copenhagen :lolol:

No. The extra spots for topping the co-efficient table are protected and given to teams who haven't already qualified for the Champions League. Additionally the spot for the Europa League winners (and the Champions League winners) are protected if the clubs haven't already qualified through their league positions.

In the case that Man United or Spurs won the Europa League we'd have 6 places in the Champions League assuming that England get the extra place, as neither of them are going to bother the top 4 this season.

If Chelsea win the Europa Conference this season does that give them an automatic spot in the Europa League next season?

Yes, but if they qualify through their league placing for either the Europa League or Champions League then it changes how the qualification process works and other countries would benefit.

for example

Since the Europa Conference League title holders (Roma) qualified through their league position, the following changes to the access list were made:

The cup winners of association 7 (Netherlands) enter the group stage instead of the play-off round.
The cup winners of association 15 (Cyprus) enter the play-off round instead of the third qualifying round.
The cup winners of association 17 (Czech Republic) enter the third qualifying round instead of the Europa Conference League second qualifying round.

The fact that Man United and Spurs are doing well in Europa despite being rubbish and neither winning last night speaks volumes. We could have done really well this year.

Yes. And as for the Conference - I was at the Pafos v Djurgarden match last night. The standard - despite it being a last 16 match - was not high and I was left thinking Chelsea should easily win this Cup.
Strangely, after taking the lead, the home side were content to waste time and sit on a 1-0 with the away leg to come. I suspect they might come to regret that.
