I don’t remember Potter relegating Brighton?
The Matthew Benham example suggests this is very much true.
However, what is up for debate is whether or not TB feels he was screwed over by Potter.
The timing may have been rubbish, but I don't think that Tony feels screwed over by Potter. He doesn't stand in the way of players or staff moving on to a bigger club / better paid opportunity as long as the club gets what is market value or contractually due.
With RdZ quickly installed, I reckon Bloom felt like he'd been done a favour, with £20m+ banked and an exciting new manager on board.
Only a few will know for sure how he feels about it, but you can bet your bottom dollar that if (IF!) Potter is hired, it means that Bloom did not feel screwed over when GPott left.

One manager took over a club in the close season and was provided with a squad strengthened by £60 million worth of players and Alexis McAllister’s loan ending and only managed to finish two places higher (15th) than the previous season. He also benefitted from a 3 month pause to the season that helped end a 10 game winless streak that showed no signs of ending otherwise.
The other manager took over mid-season and utilised the squad at his disposal (Mitoma never started a league game under Potter) with no significant investment and the disruption of a Winter World Cup and a managed to improve the league placing from the previous season with the same squad by three places (6th) and qualify the club for Europe.

Which of Potter’s bad runs are you referring to?
The ten game winless one that led up to lockdown in his first season?
The ten game winless run in the 2020-21 season where we couldn’t beat eventually relegated Fulham and Sheffield United and drew with Newport in the Fa Cup?
The twelve game winless run pre-Christmas followed by a six game losing streak in his glorious 2021-22 campaign that was only ended when he finally took a chance and picked Caicedo instead of Alzate and Moder? (Though he was forced into this by injury so any credit afforded to Potter is highly questionable)
All of those runs were terrible and the football was largely dull. De Zerbi had his flaws but our team played much more exciting football and were much less likely to go on streaks of poor form than under Potter.
Quite why anyone would want him back is beyond me.

I’ve never said I want him back although it would be very amusing to see the reaction of some.
All these “bad run” arguments are a load of bollocks anyway. The facts are he took over when we were on the verge of relegation and left us in 4th place playing brilliant football. All managers and teams have blips over certain periods of time.
Anyone who doesn’t think he did a very good job isn’t worth arguing with.
If you bought some shares and doubled your money in three years would you constantly moan about the periods your investment was at a loss?
Press conferences are enough for me.
If he conducts himself in a public arena like he has done, (swearing at Chelsea to carry favour), doesn’t say a lot about him as an individual.
As per my post, doesn’t mean he’s not a good coach or manager, but a prick for me…

Potter changed our style of play for the better. It was much more entertaining than watching Hughton’s teams. He knows most of our squad, is experienced in the Prem, could hit the road running and so he probably ticks more boxes than other rumoured candidates. But if I had the opportunity to remarry my first wife after she’d walked out on me, would I? No way - but good business decisions need to be removed from all the emotional stuff. Which is a long explanation to say I’m on the fence.

What was wrong with his press conferences? If anything they were non descript and rather dull. Difficult to take offence at.
I understand many fans were upset when he left due to the speed and taking Bruno and the family dog etc but isn't it time to move on?
We were 4th when he left, playing lovely stuff and the goals were flying in.
We could do a lot worse.
