[Brighton] The Woof (Old Preston Brewery Tap)

Has anyone been to this pub? I used to love it before, proper boozer, bit rough round the edges but decent. Now the names been changed and it's a pub catered for f**king smelly dogs.

Why?! Can't stand it that pubs are being turned into dog houses although most of us are in one if we stay at one for too long with the missus BARKING down the phone ;)

But seriously, is it any good? Because pubs that have dogs running around are not f*cking pubs. Why are dogs shoved down our throats in pubs?! They aren't the place for them, EXCEPT if it's a country pub.

The one good thing I have seen in this pub is they have darts etc which is quite appealing.

Curious for NSC reviews.

I've avoided it since the change, for the very reason it's trying to attract dogs and their owners. For every well behaved dog in a pub, there seems to be 5 that beg food from tables, bark, fight with other dogs and/ or smell. I assume the owner thinks that being near Preston Park will attract dog walkers and their mutts (mainly cockerpoos around here).

Been in it a few times back in the day, but it didn't compare with the Crown and Anchor fifty yards north, and rebranding it as the Woof won't fix it.
The owners of the Crown and Anchor are great, that's my local drinking pub tbf. Always have a nice drink and time there. It's still got a pub vibe and the food is decent.

Yeah, designer dogs. The worst. Also don't trust them either. (I'm not a huge dog person by any stretch, as you can tell).

Love all animals, but not stinky hounds in a pub or cafe. And many folk, stemming from childhood or other issues, are uncomfortable when they’re present.

Would the landlords be dog fanatics? Unable to clock that most people aren’t.

The Crown and Anchor has always had a nice feel, I hope they benefit from this.

Modern day philosophy of exceptionalism & need to create a personality for a dog.
Having stopped after a walk @ Devils Dyke in the summer for a quick beer, it was like being on set in 101 Dalmatians - nonstop barking from the various assembled hounds.
Not great if you are allergic / asthma etc..

Christ.

As a cockapoo owner who sometimes gets dragged into the local by my pooch (ahem) I’d avoid it like the plague. Sounds like the dog equivalent of soft play, only with booze and a wanky name.

The Foghorn get it right. Dogs can go in if well behaved but it’s a locals pub with good beer first and foremost. Also tables outside in the summer, so most owners sit out which removes the space blocking and smell problems.

Perch and Rockwater are two dog friendly food places that manage to get things right also. Basically, if you’re on a popular dog walking route you’d be mad to exclude dogs. But making it exclusively for them? Not for me, Clive.
