[Albion] How exactly did we blow the Championship title in 2016/17?

It still rankles. Three games left, one win needed. Then calamity x 3.

Hughton should have been sacked there and then.

there seemed to be a strong sense that the job was done- in another situation the players ideally wouldn't be spending days out on the lash during the season. It was all a bit undisciplined and unprofessional

but as the huge post season celebration proved, I don't think many fans were that bothered at the time

Was that when they opened the Amex to show the Villa away match? I can remember thinking afterwards
"why did I bother?"

I've just checked again on BBC's website and - yes - Norwich did beat us 2-0 despite not registering a single shot on target in the match.

Can't believe anyone can say that was nothing to do with Chris Hughton. Do you think under RDZ that the players would have just gone on the piss in town for 2 weeks after promotion was secured? Absolutely no way.

Hughton has to take overall responsibility. A stronger manager would have won one of those last 3 games, it was ridiculous that we didn't.

Have to say it doesn't really bother me now though.

Hughton should have been shacked there and then.
One win would have definitely sealed it but we only actually needed to match one of Newcastle's results in the last three games. Shame we did not pull this off.

A stat from that season: there were only two players who scored two goals against David Stockdale...one of them was David Stockdale.

Was a big disappointment. I can forgive the Norwich as everyone was still p*ssed including us on the train up with a quite splendid in train bar.

The Bristol City at home game was just a woeful performance and we should have nailed it there and then. By the time we got to the last 10 minutes of the Villa game you could see the players were bricking it just hoping we'd scrape over the line despite having had enough chances to put the game to bed. The utter sh*tness of the Villa goal still annoys me to this day.

Excellent thread.

I blame Bloom actuallly. My guess is that the team was all incentivised on promotion, rather than winning the league, and thus they all felt that the job was done. Villa and Norwich still feel like small splinters.

Nowt to do with CH. Players collectively downed tools and went on the piss. They could 'of' and should 'of' had a winners medal to show their kids and grandkids. Oh well, their loss. Cupid stunts
Exactly….and erm time to move on…the OP would be better off cleaning the toilet or something similar 🤦‍♂️
