Sadly this is the reason. Any sense of national community gets hijacked by these people.

The idea that folk aren't comfortable with being English naturally is a myth. Where sport is concerned, I find myself being very patriotic when England play rugby and cricket. I would wear my England rugby shirt and the red rose with great pride. Mainly because there a few knuckle draggers associated with the sport. If there was a national day of pride in all that's good in England I'd love it. But for me that's a game of cricket, tea and a nice evening at the country pub. Citizens of all races welcomed with open arms.

I'll stick to Sussex Day. Game of stoolball, anyone ?

Nah not really, but there is plenty in the arts (so wonderfully supported by governments - sorry HwT I am doing that ambiguous thing again).

Comedy, literature, television and films and music. We have a proud history in these areas, universally recognised around the world.

From what I gather he's originally from Essex, who has moved down to Brighton at some point. Thorpe would post videos as a posh watch advisor/expert. Though saw a gap in the market and the opportunity to gain a hell of a lot more views by stirring things up, by playing to the more easily influenced.

Watching that video makes me really wonder why it's not so popular. St Paddy's is all about dressing up and getting drunk. St Georges day gets dressing up and fighting with he police. What fun!

I was visiting my mum in a nursing home today and noticed that none of the newspapers in the cafe (Daily Stale, Torygraph and Excess) had anything about St George's Day on the front page or masthead. Even the Excess - and their symbol is St George ffs.

But other countries with a much larger far right voting population than us (most European countries for a start) manage to go all out and (largely) positively celebrate their national day - for example the Dutch?

I couldn't care less either way for the record, but I'm not sure that really is the reason as if we did choose to go all out as a nation those morons would be a very small minority

So many folk here seem to think we're the only nation who have a section of obnoxious morons like those in the video. We're really, really not. Racism/nationalism is alive and kicking all across Europe, much more than here in a lot of countries

Just got back from a St George's Day Lunch which involved 1600 people including Graham Gooch , Rory Underwood, Phil Campion and James Haskell ( who was absolutely brilliant as the main speaker)
True Englishman of the year went to Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield.
Over £27,0000 raised for MND Charity and a truly English Day with Jerusalem, There always be an England, Rule Britannia amongst other patriotic songs sung today.

We don't celebrate St George's day because...

1) We never did
2) As a predominantly Protestant country we are a bit meh on saints.
3) The Church of England (THE ENGLISH CHURCH INNIT) were always a bit down on a mystical foreigner.
4) We can't use it as a proxy for "independence", because lets face it we've always been in charge except that anomaly when those French f******* sneaked over in Bexhill in 1066. . The East Sussex tourist board even refer to it as "1066 country" the woke traitors.
5) If you had religious education in the 1970s and the vicar asked you "draw a dragon" he was clearly stoned or a groomer.

I don't long for a "national day" because they are shit, really really shit. Let's celebrate the fact we don't need one.

Having first hand experienced the usual St Patricks Day commercialised carnage in Liverpool recently, the Australia day completely compromised, USA independence ? best rid - Let's just take the moral high ground and say we saw all this coming and decided YEARS ago not to have one.

We decided to not to celebrate because we thankful we are English and all the advantages it has given us.

Let’s be honest here. Those videos don’t show anyone celebrating anything.

Just a bunch of no hopers using it as an excuse to go to the pub all day with another group of losers and act like the morons.

They do more damage than good.
