A morning walk in Friston forest.
Acer update. Yes, next door built a lean-to to store logs right on the boundary 30 years ago. The owner who inherited it 15 years ago is 81, so I'm not going to be a dick about it. I can see a future own demolishing it just to get a better view of my acer

Certainly not one of the better photos on this thread, but maybe one of the more surprising. Taken yesterday morning at Preston Rockery, it's a terrapin the size of a dinner plate! 
Seeing as how its a non-native species, I'm thinking some disaffected pet owner may have chucked it in there. Or maybe it was deliberately introduced, like - presumably - the koi carp. Any ideas @Jack Straw? @jevs? Should I contact an animal rescue centre or something?

There are a number of these in various ponds around the place - personal view is they need to be taken out of the wild as they are non native and a threat to creatures such as newts. There is/was a pond in peacehaven that had crested newts in it but a mixture of terrapins/turtles and goldfish wiped them (and the common newt) out. Locals more happy to see goldfish and these rather than know there are native species in the water which are less visual.Certainly not one of the better photos on this thread, but maybe one of the more surprising. Yeah, I've seen them somewhere other than Brighton (can't recall and also at Hampden Park Eastbourne they are happy enough living here but I am unsure whether they reproduce as perhaps our summer is too cool?
