[Technology] Downloading TV Series question

Heading back to sea soon for another 10 week contract.
I normally download a few series to my laptop to watch while away using BBC Iplayer, as they would not be wiped after 2 weeks as is the case with Amazon, Netflix, Apple TV. Also, say what you like about the BBC, they have some great content on Iplayer.
However, they have disabled downloads, and streaming is just not an option for me, on a ship with very slow & very expensive wifi. (I save my wifi for face time calls home to my family).
So, anyone out there know of a good platform I can use to download some decent tv series (I love a good drama, crime, sort of thing).

I can'r bear the thought of watching yank tv for 10 weeks. Utter shite, between the adverts that is!

You sure they have disabled the download facility? I have checked on iplayer and it’s still there for me

aaaah. Looks like old series you can download but not current stuff…..as you were…..if you go into the series and open the episode ( say try the Belfast coppers one) underneath stay watching, it is there

There lots of ways that aren't legal, but NSC isn't the place for a step by step guide. It's relatively simple, you just need:
1) a VPN (not needed but recommend for safety)
2) a solid site to find Torrents with magnet links
3) uTorrent software to download the torrents

Yeah, I’d rather do legal. Don’t mind paying.

Mubi is a service that allows downloads for offline viewing but it's for movies only...generally a curated list of indie/world/arty movies but occasionally has Hollywood movies.

It has a free trial if you want to check it out and if you click cancel at the end of the trial they are likely to offer a cheaper membership (£5 a month).

Unfortunately doesn't have TV series, not sure what to suggest for that.

There is a command line utility to download shows from iPlayer but it is complicated and a bit 'grey area' if you do not want to get involved with that. Personally can't see the harm if you have a TV licence.

You can still download programmes for viewing via iPlayer but only now using Tablets or Mobile devices.

Portable DVD, a cable and a box set from charity shop. Fraction of price probably too. Job done.

They've disabled downloading on PCs and Macs because of the limited amount of people who were doing it.

An easy cost cutting measure to apply when you've had to make cost savings.

Really annoying though.

You need a command line program called yt-dlp. Get it from https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp
It parses a web page and downloads the video on it. Works on loads of sites such as Youtube.

I just tried it for iPlayer and it works ok
