I drove from Brighton to Newhaven about 9.30 this morning and although bad, it was nowhere near as bad as coming the other way, solid from Rottingdean all the way back almost to Newhaven. It's like Peacehaven has been completely cut off from civilisation

I did similar - absolute insanity to start the works before/at rush hour!
"Installation of electricity cables " first phase at Western End of Portland Road starts 22 April and should finish 14th May. Once Olive Road is impacted upon then carnage will ensue.

Much cooler than silly responses. I was thinking of going to Eastbourne this week and taking the coast road. I'll go A27 and save an hour. How cool is that ? Thanks @Peacehaven Wild Kids

An hour to drive into Brighton at 7.00am and an hour and a half to get home to Peacehaven this evening. Apparently they are doing water repairs at Rottingdean and were meant to be using the temporary traffic lights from 8pm until 5am, to stop any major traffic problems. Then one of the daft twunts went and damaged a gas main last night and the lights have stayed in place since.

Overnight works by southern water were due to finish at 5am.......however they hit a gas main and so works won't now finish until friday evening and will be 24/7 rather than 8pm to 5am as originally planned.
Temporary lights are on a phasing designed for nighttime traffic. They've been fudged to try and alleviate but still not good enough

Peacehaven and Saltdean really do need an additional road to access the A27, ridiculous that everytime there is roadworks, or a broken down vehicle it takes an hour to get from Rottingdean to Peacehaven and vice versa.

I had to cancel 3 jobs in Rottingdean this morning, took approximately 3/4 hour to get from Newhaven to the end of Peacehaven.
I then decided to cancel the work when Radio Sussex travel reported it was estimated 2 hour journey to get from Newhaven to Rottingdean.

Southern Water X account didn’t seem to know what was happening this morning between 9 and 9.30. Would have thought if a gas main was damaged during the nighttime works they should have made announcements on social media.
Reply here suggesting people allow more time for travel at 9.30 when everyone was in massive queue.

The A259 is closed both ways in between Newhaven and Peacehaven 8pm-6am tonight. They have made good progress over the last 2 nights resurfacing sections of the road.

It needed it. Eastbound between Kwik Fit and the Fairway was a huge one that nearly wrecked my near side wheels.
