Both mine have MScs and me and I flunked my A levels, but I’d murder them both at Scrabble or any other word game. Like many their age their age their spelling (and grammar and general vocabulary) is AWFUL(I had loads of ambitious go-getting (entitled) MBA-qualified newish entrants in my old work team, there written reports could not of been worse

He really should be contributing (imo). He probably gets a staff discount at Morrisons as well, so get him to do the shopping. You probably won't get what you asked for, if my experience is anything to go by, but it's the thought that counts. Even if you don't ask him to contribute to it, it may start registering to him how much it costs! Although this has the potential to back fire, he'll stay with you longer as he realises he can't afford food if he moves out.

100% agree…….youngest did his MSc dissertation on football (nearly 100 pages of data and analysis on corners taken in the Women’s Championship), it was as dull as ****.

Played a family game of scrabble one Christmas. Our then new Spanish daughter-in-law with a limited English vocabulary carefully laid the c-word. No idea how many points, but a bit of a shock!
Actually you’re right , giving these kids in their 20’s full board and lodging without contributing is surely creating a problem in itselfIf he doesn't buy his own food, then to ask for a contribution is more than reasonable! Tbh, even if he does buy his own food it's not nasty to ask for a contribution. As soon as my Jnr started working full time, I said he had to contribute, it's the principle than anything.

Are you being serious? So who is behind this plan and why is it not being discussed and agreed democratically first? Yes, I’m an old bloke. But I feel we’re constantly being reprimanded and 'corrected' for some unspecified misdemeanour that I don’t have any opportunity to respond to first.

It could be argued that while they're at home without contributing, they could be saving to get their foot on the housing ladder or something. But I think they should contribute 'something'. My Jnr is the same age as @Questions, he did 'all the maths' a couple of years ago & got himself a studio flat about 3 months before the costs of everything went through the roof. Even to him who'd paid 'something' the costs of everything was unexpected & quite a big jump. I send him Pot Noodles via Amazon subscription (I don't really) but he is struggling. It's safe to say when he was working out his weekly shopping bill, he forgot things like washing up liquid, washing powder, cleaning stuff & things like that. He does buy them and use them before it sounds like he's living in a hovel with dirty clothes, dishes and a general Young Ones style! He just didn't think to add them to his shopping budget!

I did discount his 'housekeeping' money on the grounds he had to travel on Southern fail everyday, he used to leave here at 6am and get back at 6.30pm (trains permitting). Trauma discount.
