Leics to Lancs to Derbys back to leics . Ashes winner. Played a lot of games for England.
But he’s rarely talked about In recent years.

A lot of promise but only occasionally seemed to cut it at Test level. The problem was the burden of England looking for the new Botham. Much like Chris Lewis really.

I read a fantastic Phil DeFreitas stat the other day, buried in a comment on an article on compiling the most 90s England team possible written during lockdown. Apparently it originally comes from Andy Zaltzman:
“ DeFreitas played in the first Test of the English summer for nine consecutive seasons, from 1987 to 1995. He played the last Test of the English summer only twice – in 1991 and 1994. In four of the other seven summers, he appeared only in the first Test; in two more, he played just the first two; and he played the first, third and fifth of the six Tests England played in their 1988 home season.” - Andy Zaltzman / some guy called "The Smudge" commenting on the article below.

Apparently Sussex will not use Hove’s floodlights in any Championship match this season, citing the £150 per hour cost as a contributing factor. Surely somebody could have passed a bucket round?

A sad indictment of cricket in England when a club can't afford £150 an hour. The gap between the haves and have nots in ridiculous - Derbyshire didn't manage a single ball in this round. 15 miles down the road, Notts managed 320 overs and a result, we all know the reason for the difference. Good job they got stuffed
According to the commentary they're also of a type that can't easily be turned off and on again (and replacing them with LEDs would cost about £1m).
They conveniently also argue that they don't think that red ball cricket mixes well with floodlights, which is clearly nonsense. Although I do think if the situations had been reversed and Sussex had been skittled under lights then some people might have different opinions on that point.

All fixtures in September start at 10:30 - surely if the ECB must insist on the CC staring the first weekend in April, a similar arrangement should be met. On no day of the Northants match were the daily allotted overs bowled, let alone the extras added to make up time.

Easy enough to raise monry for electrity. Not easy because 4 day cricket no longer played in summere. Not many will pay £20 plus a day to watch in April May and September. however would be easy to raise money for electricity by marketing games and charging say £10 a day and any 3 days for £20
